Tennis Anyone?
by Tonya Emberton, Section 6 Representative

The tennis court has been a busy place already this spring. Often there has been a wait to use the court during weekends. Along with court use, repairs become a necessity.

Due to the weight of fence, two bars were added to provide adequate tension to secure the areas of fence at the bottom that had curled upward. Windscreens of 60 feet at either end of court were attached providing some wind distortion and better player visibility while hitting the ball. With the attachment of screens, the backboard was then relocated to the north side. This gives backboard players easy access to balls hit over the fence and makes the setting sun behind the player’s back and not in the eyes.

Also, the locked door to the court was vandalized last month. The door was physically removed off metal hinges and fence inside door frame was cut so that it needed to be fully replaced. Dobbs Tennis Courts, Inc. provided service to repair all the fencing and attach the windscreen. The total cost to the WGPOA was $3,300, with $175 of this amount paid for vandalism repair of the fence door.

Now our tennis court is in great shape for spring and summer use.
