WoodGlen POA home

A word from the president...

This first quarter of 2007 has been busy for the WoodGlen Property Owners Association.

Wood Glen needs YOU! Open volunteer positions
The WGPOA exists to keep your property values up and the neighborhood maintained well. Our management company is crucial to keeping our covenants and restrictions adhered to by all residents and many other neighborhood issues, however, many wonderful things about our neighborhood happen because of people willing to volunteer their time. Please consider helping to keep your property value high. If we all take a turn, the neighborhood will remain a wonderful place to call home. Here are the areas we need help:

  • Section 4 Board Representative (See section map)
  • Safety/Security Committee Chairperson
  • Ant Bait Control (Fall and Spring) coordinator
  • Social committee members to help with event(s)
  • Neighborhood clean-up organizer
  • Capital Improvements committee members

Tennis court repairs and improvements
My sincere thanks go out to Ms. Tonya Emberton who is our Section 6 representative. She spearheaded the effort to get our tennis court fencing repaired. By meeting with three different companies who submitted bids, the board chose Dobbs Tennis Courts, Inc., to repair and improve our existing courts. Her time and efforts to make such a wonderful improvement are very much appreciated. Our courts now have no fencing curling up at the bottom, a sturdy three-rail system to keep it that way for the long-term and excellent wind screens for optimal play.

Ant bait control
Research Pest Control, Inc. (Cedar Park) applied ant bait to the entire neighborhood front yards, common areas and greenbelt trails on March 28, 2007. The backyard bait pick up is Saturday, April 28th from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Williamson County entomologist Elizabeth (Wizzie) Brown will be on hand to answer any specific questions you have about the ant control program. If you cannot make the pick up time, recruit your neighbor to do so for you. Do not forget to bring your own hand spreader to be filled with the bait, Extinguish Plus, to apply to your yard. The specialists have advised us that we may change bait ingredients in the future as the ants become immune to the effectiveness of one combination (to save the queen!).

Vandalism and mischief at the tennis courts and pool are
I’m sad to report that two recent incidents took place at our amenity center area. The door/gate to the tennis court was ripped completely away from the thick metal hinges during the last weekend of RRISD spring break. The HOA has had it repaired and paid for with HOA (your) funds. The board will now consider adding a motion and light sensor to the tennis court area and hang signs that the area is monitored and that the WGPOA policy is to prosecute any vandals caught damaging property. The two motion sensors installed at the pool area several years ago made a significant impact on reducing vandalism in the pool area.

Also, a group of about 6 teens opened the pool gate with a Wood Glen key and squeezed into the pool area (which was officially closed until April 1) despite an extra padlock on the gate. Although a piece of pool furniture was floating in the pool, there was no significant damage. Our pool committee chair and Section 7 Representative Shawn Hoss has overseen preparations that enabled us to open the pool on April 1, 2007, with special lawn work, pool and restroom cleaning and furniture set up. Thanks, Shawn! It’s ready for all to enjoy.

WG entrance building spring cleaning and pruning
Thanks to Social Committee Chair Denise Hoss the front entrance (security) building is now in fine shape. It was cleaned by professionals and treated for pests to prepare for better organization of our social event supplies. The old security desk kept inside has been donated and Sunterra, our WGPOA landscaping company, has pruned the surrounding bushes to make it more aesthetically appealing. At one time during the initial years of the Wood Glen subdivision, there was a security guard positioned in that building for security. That service was eventually terminated after several other street entrances opened to the neighborhood including Falkirk and the Hidden Glen streets that adjoin our neighborhood.

Redesigned bi-monthly eNewsletter
Thanks to the board and our communications guru Gigi Behier, our Wood Glen newletter has an HTML/eNews format that we hope is more convenient for you. Our goal is always to keep you abreast of neighborhood information. With this new format, we hope to grab a few extra minutes of your time to read and be aware of what’s happening in Wood Glen. Please let us know if you have anything to contribute to the newsletter. We are happy to welcome pertinent content. Gigi works hard to make the Wood Glen communications professional. She’s also the mastermind behind the redesigned web site of last year. Thanks, Gigi!

WG capital improvements Rex Bryan is in charge of this new and challenging committee for Wood Glen. As many of you know, we are considering expanding our amenity center area to accommodate demands from WG residents. However, there are many suggestions and ideas for improving our neighborhood beyond just the amenity center so the new Capital Improvements Committee will prioritize ideas and execute on those priorities.

"No Outlet" street signs for Wood Glen
The board has received multiple requests recently concerning posting a "No Outlet" sign at appropriate cul de sac dead end spots in the neighborhood. This request has been submitted to the city of Round Rock’s Engineering office by resident volunteer Wayne Solum. The city immediately came out to assess our needs and installed 5 "No Outlet" signs at the positions they deemed appropriate.

Please be sure to read all the WGPOA updates in this issue from board and committee chair members and enjoy your spring!

Best regards,

Grace Capwell
WGPOA President and Section 1 Representative
