Rattlesnake Bite Kills Wood Glen Dog
Residence on Falkirk backs up to greenbelt
A Wood Glen resident who lives on Falkirk Dr. (close to Falkirk Cove) lost their 9-year-old chocolate Labrador dog to a rattlesnake bite on May 7, 2008. Their home backs up to the greenbelt and the rattlesnake was coiled up under their backyard picnic table.
The family said they wanted to alert Wood Glen residents to this tragic situation so others can be extremely cautious with both pets and children as they venture outside right now. Spring is mating season for many animals including snakes. Their dens are typically found under rocks.
The family learned there is a anti-venom available although the vet said their pet likely would still not have made it. In addition, they learned a vaccine for dogs is available and they are planning on having their other dogs vaccinated as a result. Please contact your own veterinarian for information to safeguard your own pets.
