President’s Letter

President
President Grace Capwell

As I reported last issue many Wood Glen residents gave the Board their thoughts on capital improvements through the write-in questions offered on our survey conducted last May.  The capital improvements committee has poured over those comments and prioritized them in a report this month.  Please take a look at them to see what concerns your neighbors have about our area.  We will address many of them but not all at once, of course.  Based on time and money, we’ll follow the priority list.

The number one mentioned item (in the write-in, open-ended comments questions) was improving the pool area.  I’m happy to report that by increasing the frequency of both the pool (water) cleaning service and the janitorial services, the Board has not heard of any further cleaning issues.  If you see problems, please let your section rep know or Goodwin Management.  In addition, we will be able to get warranty credit on broken furniture and will apply that credit to new furniture we hope to receive before the end of the season.  More pool improvements to come!

Also, many residents are interested in having covers added to our mailbox areas.  The Board is getting pricing now on cover ideas proposed by our retained architectural firm, Faulk Architects, based here in Round Rock.  The covers would serve to keep residents dry during rain storms and light the areas at night for those checking mail at night.  The proposed lighting would be solar-powered and turned on by motion detection.

You will also see that our list of Board members and committee chairs has a few new openings.  Our Section 6 Representative, Ms. Tonya Emberton, will locate to East Texas this summer.  She and her family will be sorely missed.  I want to thank her for her time and energy given towards our neighborhood and wish her family well in their new chapter.  Section 6 includes all of Vaquera Court, Whitehurst Dr., Whitehurst Cove, a portion of Berwick Dr. north of Resnick all the way to the Hidden Glen boundary and Chatelle Dr. west of Henley.  If you live in these areas and have the time to be a Wood Glen section rep, please contact me.

Also, Shawn Hoss will remain on the Board as Section 7 representative but is giving up his extra duty as pool committee chair.  He has devoted lots of precious time and energy, especially this past spring with all the maintenance needs (fence painting, playscape power washing and painting, etc.), that he, too, will be missed in this capacity.  However, I’m confident another talented volunteer can step up to help out in the future.  Shawn is here to assist with that transition so please let us know if you can help.

Finally, congratulations to our Yard-of-the-Month winners this June, Sam and Leslie Myers on Berwick Dr.  They won a $50 home improvement gift card.  The landscaping committee will continue to award those who put so much hard work and talent in their landscaping so keep those yards looking stellar.

The animals love our neighborhood too.  As I write this, six baby birds are chirping away for food in my garage, yes, my garage!  Some smart Momma bird figured out the squirrels could not get to her young ones up high in my garage inside a small box left open by this busy Mom.  Have a safe and happy summer.

Best regards,
Grace Capwell
