President’s Letter
Hello Wood Glen residents. I hope you had a fantastic summer. It was too wet and humid but, on the bright side, our lawns looked great! I heard from several of you that the print newsletter is a welcome addition. We also were able to recruit our new communications volunteer Ms. Melissa Gialusis (pronounced Ja-Loo’-Sis) via this newsletter. As a recent addition to the neighborhood, she had not signed up electronically but did receive the print edition. So, it has already served us well! I’m grateful to her for volunteering. Also, don’t forget to sign up for the WGPOA email list if you have not already. You will receive additional immediate and pertinent news (no spam) via email by signing up.
Despite the rain, many residents enjoyed the swimming pool so much this past summer that we increased our pool service maintenance. See Shawn’s update on the pool area in this issue. Unfortunately, we also experienced vandalism at the pool. While costly, every bit of damage was repaired. As a result, the board has agreed to install sensor-based lighting to turn on after hours in hopes of minimizing vandalism in and around the pool and tennis court areas. This will be in addition to our existing motion detector security system hooked up to ADT. As always, if you see anything suspicious, please call Round Rock Police.
Knowing your neighbors is important to keeping a safe community, so a huge thank you goes out to Denise Hoss and her volunteers for the National Night Out efforts. It’s a worthwhile event to keep the community in touch while giving the kids a great time.
We have several dates to mark on your calendars for the fall. Most important, our WGPOA annual meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Old Town Elementary. I hope to see many of you there. Our fall ant bait control program is taking place again in early Oct. (see Calendar of Events listing) as well as the fall garage sale. Our neighbors in The Plantation across 3406 are coordinating their garage sale date with us to increase success.
School has started and the buses are traveling the neighborhood with precious cargo. Please help keep all the kids safe by staying alert, driving the speed limit and stopping for buses, especially along Plantation Drive (30 MPH).
Thanks,
Grace Capwell
