Residents Step Up to Volunteer; More Positions Open
Wood Glen resident Ms. Natalie Gulley is filling the new position of "3406 Road Safety Liaison." The board was recently contacted by the Plantation neighborhood for our cooperation in improving safety on 3406. With a dedicated volunteer we can be more proactive and expedite changes to improve safety for ALL pedestrians and drivers along 3406 particularly as it runs in front of our neighborhood. This new position has come about in large part due to the increasing traffic along 3406 (population growth) and the increase in children attending Old Town Elementary school this fall. In addition, construction traffic for the new middle school being built now at the 3406 and Walsh Ranch area will be ongoing until that school is completed. The road is managed by TXDOT but the city of Round Rock also is involved for some aspects of this road. Therefore, getting changes made will require an effort involving multiple parties. The board appreciates Natalie’s willingness to help with this issue.
The open position on the Modifications Committee also has been filled. Ms. Carole Capwell will join Sam’s committee to make an odd number of five who consider requests for modifications to their property. This committee meets every two weeks (mostly by email) to review "Requests for Approval" of modifications to property (landscaping, drainage, structures, fences, exterior home modifications (patios and covers for example).
There are still seven open positions that need to be filled. Please consider devoting some of your time to help the neighborhood keep its high standards. The open positions include:- Section 4 Representative:
This position is a voting position on the board of directors representing WG Section 4. Section 4 includes Henley and Donner Path WEST of Plantation, a small portion of Berwick that runs north of the greenbelt up to the Hidden Glen neighborhood property lines and all of Resnick. We urge any residents in these areas to represent your section on the board. Chris Behier served several years in this capacity until stepping down earlier this year. It would be great to see another resident step up and be as involved as Chris had been for us. See the WG section map online for a color coded guide to sections. - Vice President:
This leadership position exists mainly to perform functions and duties on behalf of the President with the same authority. Taking on this role does NOT require this person to become president. - Communications Committee Chair:
This position would manage communications on behalf of the board. The duties include keeping the website up-to-date, newsletter content gathering and HTML layout among others. We have been fortunate to have had Gigi Behier’s leadership in this arena for a long while. Her expertise in redesigning and updating our website and handling our newsletter is most appreciated. - RRISD Liaison:
This position would proactively stay on top of changes within the RRISD and communicate how they could potentially impact Wood Glen residents. Keeping residents informed about the facts is critical since the market value of our property is influenced by the schools our neighborhood is zoned to attend. Change examples include updates on new middle school construction and opening dates, RRISD boundary committee changes, Old Town Elementary issues such as busing or drop-off and more. - Ant Bait Program Coordinator:
This position requires one person to own the ant bait program held in the spring and fall. The major duties include setting dates, scheduling Research Pest Control, communicating dates to residents via the Wood Glen newsletter and physical signs and handing out ant bait one weekend day in the spring and fall (or recruiting volunteers to do so). - Safety/Neighborhood Watch:
This position is focused on maintaining a safe neighborhood by coordinating National Night Out activities, communicating safety issues to residents and acting as a strong liaison to the Round Rock police. - Neighborhood Clean Up:
This position coordinates an annual neighborhood clean up day to pick up litter in the common areas to keep Wood Glen beautiful.
